Jones Ultra Stratos 2022/23
Built with the body of a directional freeride board and the spirit of a freestyle board, the Ultra Stratos has an energetic board feel thanks to a narrow sidecut and a camber heavy directional rocker profile. For added float and quick edge-to-edge response, the Ultra Stratos features 10 mm of taper and a 3D Contour Base 3.0. The Ultra Stratos is built with our ultralight Fusion Carbon construction including a wood core made with two sections of Koroyd that absorb chatter at a fraction of the weight of wood. For added edge grip and unmatched torsional board lock, the Ultra Stratos Split features Inner/Outer Traction Tech 3.0, the Boltless Bridge, Karakoram Tip Lock Tip Clips and Karakoram 3C Clips that clamp together with a three point tension system. The Ultra Stratos Split is designed for expert splitboarders who tour in all snow conditions and whose eyes are drawn to creative lines full of terrain features.
Size tested: 156
The Jones Ultra Stratos is one of the new boards in Jones’ catalog for 2023. The first thing we did as soon as we unpacked the board was to put it on the scale. At only 2.54 kg for the 156cm length thanks to ultralight Fusion Carbon, this is one of the lightest boards we had the chance to test. Similar to the Stratos, the Ultra version is one of the most versatile boards you will find in the market, with directional rocker profile, traditional camber and a narrow sidecut, resulting in a very intuitive and dynamic riding, really fast and reactive from edge to edge. When it comes to powder, the generous nose rocker and 10 mm tapered shape guarantee a good float on deeper days. A good choice for experienced riders, the Jones Ultra Stratos is the ultimate splitboard for long backcountry days because it’s light, polyvalent and behaves really well on any type of snow and terrain: from big alpine lines to all sorts of exciting terrain where you could take your freestyle to the next level. We were surprised by how solid it feels in variable conditions, an excellent feature in such a light board, obviously designed for an aggressive type of riding
