The ultralight, technical objective splitboard

Ideal for high alpine expeditions and technical backcountry touring

The Ultralight Butterfly Split is an ultralight split with a compact shape that’s made for high alpine pursuits where the balance of weight and performance are hyper critical. By reducing the tip and tail size, but keeping the contact points pushed out, the Butterfly Split has a super long effective edge which maximizes edge power in variable alpine conditions.

Testing the new Butterfly – the brand-new Jones splitboard for the 23/24 season- was one of last season’s highlights. One of its most strinking features is the unique blunt shape, which helps maximize its effective edge and makes it perform like boards that are much longer. The Butterfly is a splitboard designed for high alpine missions, where a good balance between performance and lightness is crucial. According to Jones Snowboards, one of their priorities was to develop a board with the longest possible effective edge without compromising performance or efficiency. The brand recommends to opt for a length below the usual choice. At 2,89 kg for the 154cm, it is one of the lightest boards we’ll find in the market. Having tested so many boards through the years, we confirm that lightness is a crucial feat when it comes to be efficient on the mountain. The Butterfly feels ultralight when opening tracks, and this is something to consider when you are trying to save your energy, even more so in a splitboard designed for long days on the snow. Additionally, a shorter board will help us to skin up with ease on technical terrain. Thanks to the full camber profile, the Butterfly performs really well on any snow condition, be it deep powder or mixed snow where precision is required. With a perfect balance between torsion and flex -mid-stiff-, it changes swiftly from edge to edge and it is a very intuitive and easy board to steer, on top of being reactive and very stable at high speed. Designed for expert riders looking for a better performance on the mountain, the Butterfly, is a true game-changer, and Jones has nailed it creating a board that is shorter and much lighter, and rides like longer traditional cut boards. Hands down a board that well deserves the MOST INNOVATIVE award.
