Also new this season from Jones Snowboards, is the new shape of the Hovercraft. For over a decade, The Jones Hovercraft has been -and still is- one of the flaships at Jones Snowboards. This season, the nose has been revamped -going from 7 mm to 12 mm bevel- as has the tail, improving the Hovercraft in and out of the turn, as well as the gliding and the speed. It’s still a board that we would choose to ride mainly in deep powder, however, the directional shape and a long sidecut guarantee maximum control and edge hold on big turns at high speed, and also on sketchy terrain, when mixed snow makes things more demanding. But surely, this board performs its best on powder, whatever the terrain: gullies or a tree slalom in a dense forest. Despite the pretty stiff flex and torsion, we were surprised by how easily it initiates the turns and goes from one edge to the other. It is a highly versatile and adaptable splitboard to explore the whole mountain, although we wouldn’t exactly categorize The Hovercraft 2.0 as a quiver-killer, but as the ultimate gun to froth on deep powder.
