Völkl Xsight splitboard 2016-17

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Drops, butters and roosters – make the backcountry your playground with the Xsight! Thanks to the combination of Freeride Hybid Shape and Tapered Nose the splitboard version of the Alright is super playful: The shorter effective edge makes the board very agile and more fun to ride. The specific nose construction, with its square shape, not only floats in the powder but also cuts effortlessly through crust or wind-blown snow. At the same time, the Premium Carbon beam and the softer flex allow easy handling. On the climb and in icy traverses you can always count on the camber between the bindings, which provides perfect grip. The custom-fit Vacuum Base Skins can be mounted and taken off blindfolded, even in strong wind and bad weather. When not needed, you can glue them together without using a separating foil. Despite the easy handling: Respect the nature and your limits

Winner of the Best Freestyle award 2015 by Splitboard Magazine.

WHAT WE LIKED ABOUT IT:

  • The Freeride Hybrid Shape is ideal for splitboarding and riding in any conditions: float in deep powder and grip on hard snow thanks to the camber underfoot
  • Elongated nose and tail while keeping a shorter effective edge makes it very playful and easy to maneuver without sacrifying floatability
  • The Skin Pin system for an optimal attachment of the climbing skins, being able to put the two halves together with the skins on
  • Inserts for the hooks instead of drilling through the whole base, keeping the base clear of any hole
  • Its reactivity thanks to the carbon and the POP 4.0 construction

WHAT WE LIKED THE LEAST ABOUT IT:

  • The Völkl Fastec split Alu specific bindings are a bit higher than other bindings in the market, so the performance gets affected
  • It’s a little bit on the heavy side

WHAT IS IT USEFUL FOR

Splitboarders looking for a playful yet reliable and solid board. Riders looking for adding some tricks into their splitboard missions, but still be able to ride any line that the mountain has to offer.
