Splitboarding in the Ruby Mountains

Splitboarding in the Ruby Mountains

Ruby Mountains

James Karkowski and Brice Corcoran are two splitboarders who live in Utah. When not busy with work or school they like to go up into the mountains and explore.

Brice Corcoran’s words: “I had heard about Terminal Cancer Coulior and the Ruby Mountains a few years ago and always wanted to do it. The time and weather lined up right and I knew James would be the friend that would want to go do a trip like this. We set out from SLC at 9 pm and had camp set up by 2:30 AM. After a short night of restless sleep in a freezing cold and windy canyon, we thumbed a ride up to the base of the coliour from a local guy with a snowcat. We climbed up and rode down the coulior without issue. The next day we set out touring and ended up finding some other smaller, but really fun chutes that no one had touched. There wasn’t even a skin track to some of the lines, it was pretty unreal coming from the crowded Wasangeles backcountry to a place so pristine. Definitely a place to go back to”.
