Splitboard Romania ep. 1 Fagaras Mountains

split rumania

Marius Stratila is a splitboarder from Romania and owner of Splitboard Romania. Even though the season there has been pretty bad, he has started this series to show the possibilities that Romania has to offer. Here’s the first episode.

When we want to talk about snow, we all know that this season we had poor snow conditions. Romania wasn’t an exception. If last year we could enjoy the snow since December, this year we had to wait for it until February.

But we are in March and the powder drew our attention again. This time on 15th of March, in Fagaras Mountains, the highest and most spectacular mountains in Romania, but sometimes the most dangerous as well. If you are a freerider, you have probably heard about Balea, one of the most accesible destination for Romanian freeride lovers.

Of course, Balea is not the only place which you can choose to go, as most of the people believes. Splitboard is perfect to escape from the crowds and it can show you the heart of the mountains, full of untouched snow. We try to discover it around Barcaciu Challet where are a lot of mountain trails.

We choose some trails which start from Saua Scarii (Saddle Scale) . First day, Saturday, was full of sunshine with an excellent snow in the morning, but much more wet snow in the afternoon.

To our great surprise, the next day was totally different because when waking up in the morning we were glad to see that it was snowing all night long. So, Sunday was a powder day. We were as enthusiast as we were the day before and we thought wisely regarding the lines we had to choose. We opted for forested areas, among trees, and it was a very good choice.

To conclude, it was not a bad idea to go to ski in March because the big snow that we found there could put smiles on our faces. Like we did last season, we try to sum up all our splitboard activity in short movies.

Here is the first episode of this season:
