Salomon presents Salomon Splitboards

During a road trip to the Alps, we caught up with David Pitschi and David Adamczewski from Salomon Snowboards at the Annecy Design Center to talk about Salomon’s new project: Salomon Splitboards

1-We recently found out about the creation of the facebook and instagram site Salomon Splitboards. We couldn’t be happier that a big manufacturer like Salomon wants to give special attention to the splitboarding market. What lead you to create these social media accounts?

DP : We know that the passionate splitboarder looks at snowboarding differently than our Freestyle kids and he couldn’t find what he was looking for on our main social platform that is mostly about freestyle snowboarding. So to be able to talk more directly with the highly technical crowd that split board we found it natural to create an avenue that speaks straight to them.

2- What can Salomon bring to the splitboarding market?

DP : Salomon can bring some great innovations to the split market, with the experts we have at the Annecy Design Center in snowboarding and touring we have a great benchmark of technologies that allow us to provide the splitting community with some unique and groundbreaking innovations like the Premiere.

3- How do you perceive the splitboarding market worldwide?

DP : The splitboarding market is a growing market of passionate snowboarders and powder hunters, it’s benefitting from the ageing of the consumers and we are finding more and more people interested into getting away from the crowds and being able to ride untracked powder. It is becoming its own industry with some highly competitive brands and Salomon want to be part of them.

4- We visited the Salomon Annecy Design Center, located right at the foot of the Alps, less than an hour away from Chamonix. What are the benefits for a splitboard manufacturer to have such a design center so close to the mountains?

DA : It’s a strong asset to have such a prototype center just behind our desk, we can develop and test new ideas really easily. Boots, boards, bindings… we can use all the facilities to prototype tomorrow’s gear while sharing with all engineers working on Salomon touring boots and skis, footwear, bags, poles… 800 people are working here, this means a lot of ideas to be shared, prototyped and tested

DP : We also often get to test product within a day, it is also key that the people behind the design of our split board are strong split boarders too. David (A.) is behind all the innovations we bring to split boarding and he is in the mountains researching and splitting every possible day. We are lucky to call the alps our backyard it definitively gives us some unique insights on product development.
