Since 2001 Prior Snowboards & Skis have been working with some of the Sea to Sky’s finest artists to create pieces that represent the Whistler lifestyle and culture. They have used these artworks to adorn their line of locally handcrafted skis and boards that have been sold all over the world.
This year, Prior would again like to find out from the people of Whistler, Pemberton and Squamish what artwork they believe represents their community, lifestyle, culture and experience in this mountain paradise. To do this, Prior is hosting an exhibition in partnership with the Whistler Arts Council that showcases local artists’ work and asks the public to cast a vote on the artwork they believe meets the above criteria.
The most popular artwork will then be added to the Prior product line for Winter 2014/2015. In exchange for the use of this artwork, the selected artist will receive a custom built ski or board with their artwork on it and a Prior pro pack.
Artists who would like to be included in this exhibition are asked to submit their work in either a 34cm(w) x 200cm(h) size or a scaled down version of these dimensions. It should be no smaller than 10cm(w) x 59cm(h). Any flat visual pieces will be considered which includes but is not limited to photographic, digital, acrylic, sketched, stenciled & spray painted artworks.
The deadline for the application and for the artwork to be submitted is on Monday August 26th at 11AM. Original artwork must be available to Prior following the exhibition to allow Prior to convert the artwork to a production format.
The exhibition will take place from Monday September 23rd at the Scotia Creek Gallery in Millenium Place and will run through the month of October with public voting closing on Friday the 25th of October. The exhibition launch party in conjunction with Out of Bounds kicks off on Tuesday September 24th 2013 and will include live music, cash bars, food, voting and a ‘get stoked for the upcoming winter’ vibe.
The exhibit is set to coincide with numerous ski and snowboard film premiers along with the photographic exhibition Out of Bounds: Tales from the Backcountry which together will attract around 5,000 people throughout the duration of the exhibition.
