Valhalla outfit, Outdoor Research Review

GENERAL OVERVIEW:
The Valhalla outfit from Outdoor Research is an outfit made specifically for the backcountry enthusiasts. It features a GORE® WINDSTOPPER® X-FAST Soft Shell membrane, what makes it completely windproof, water resistant and breathable. This type of material gives the outfit full stretchability for a perfect fit and makes it extremely comfortable for touring and riding.

The Valhalla jacket, with a weight of 613gr, has critically taped seams and Double-Sliding TorsoFlo™ Hem-to-Bicep Zippers, allowing you to have a superior ventilation. The front pockets are placed above hip belt or harness to make them easier to access when you use a backpack.

Besides these two front pockets, it also features two internal pockets and two dual zippered napoleon pockets.
Full adjustable helmet compatible hood.
The Valhalla pants weight 694gr, and they feature a internal stretch gaiter and reinforced scuff guards. The pants feature zippered thigh vents on the side and articulated knees for a perfect fit.
They have five pockets, one of them with a key clip attachment to secure your avalanche transceiver.

WHAT WE LIKED ABOUT IT:

  • – Its breathability and stretchability are two key points for active sports like splitboarding. Wide zip ventilations under the armpits of the jacket make for high air flow when needed, while the water repellent treatment will keep you dry most of the days that you go out there in the backcountry.
  • – Lots of pockets placed in the right spot so the backpack doesn’t bother you if you need anything.
  • – Fast zips as well as easy to reach with your gloves on.
  • – The roomier fit of the pants along with the articulated knees give you the right fit for splitboarding, not too baggy, not too tight.

WHAT WE LIKED THE LEAST ABOUT IT:

Even though the Gore Windstopper material will keep you dry and warm most of the days out in the backcountry, it’s not the most suitable membrane for really wet days when you need a full waterproof membrane.

WHAT IS IT USEFUL FOR:

Intense and active splitboarding trips where superior breathability is needed, as well as most of the trips with a not too rough weather.
