Séb is patient, creative and innovative as all the great craftsmen are. To him making a snowboard or a splitboard is much more than a job. The respect for the environment, the proximity and quality are important aspects that take place when making their projects.
When I was a child one of the comics I liked the most was the adventures of Asterix and Obelix. When I was reading the stories about their confronting to the Romans I did not think too deeply about the message that the author, Rene Gsocinny, wanted to transmit through his characters. I was seduced by the idea of that pacific little village that resisted the thirst for power from the Roman army. They could resist the Roman attacks thanks to a magic potion that gave them a supernatural energy and let them to defend their village from the constant attacks from the rival army. Over the years I understood the meaning of the magic potion that René embodied in the beverage, the one that druid Panoramix prepared in an intelligent way. But René went further: the best potion is our mind, our capacity to create and generate ideas that we can make them come true. That’s the only tool we can use to defend in what we believe. Here it comes the metaphor: the Phenix family led by Séb resisting the global world reign by Marketing and directed by the huge corporations created for the only purpose to make money.
They can do it thanks to their authentic and original philosophy from their little village called Renage, Isère. The Phenix have turned an old textile factory into their workshop and their home inside La Grande Fabrique. They have converted this old factory to a place to manufacture the splitboards. Séb is patient, creative and innovative as all the great craftsmen are. To him making a snowboard or a splitboard is much more than a job. The respect for the environment, the proximity and quality are important aspects that take place when making their projects.
The wood they use is from a protected area which is close to their workshop. The manual and controlled manufacturing process prove
their sustainable work. Furthermore, the main feature of the family Phenix is their reinvention in Swalow Philopohy which is abandoned and abused by the current advertising aesthetics. This is the star of the brand and, in fact, the spliboard SPX173 which is divided in three parts, is the only one in the world with these characteristics today. All of this work is a result of a personal compromise and a way of life after passing through different kinds of project as Boheme or Fressur. The Phenix-snowboards is the most personal project of the family.
